not really anthing to say about it, but just feeling like a needed a quick vent...

the kid came in and replaced all the index pages on my server.... dont know how they got in.... its a cobalt raq4..... it appears thats all they did so I uploaded index pages and will wipe the server in the am and have valueweb restore the data....

could have been worse, but after everything I'm going through, I'm tired and now stressed. I wish that guy would stumble into my place... it would be a mess by the time the cops showed

I am sorry to hear your site was hacked. Maybe the system administrators will keep more on top of security now.

In most cases you wont need to 'wipe' the hard drive to get rid of a trojan/virus. I run into admins doing that when they do not know what to do or are unexperienced with the situation.

Even if they wipe the drives will the same security vulnerabilty be open?

I blame it totally on the system administrators right now, it could very well be your fault too (: ie: ftp'ing in over a connection which isnt encrypted and a hacker watching packets and sniffed out your password. Writing it down somewhere. who knows (:

Hope you recover from the downtime.

as it turned out, they didn't wipe the disk and they think they fixed the situation.... let's hope:)

(: One thing to watch out for, if the admin fixes the whole a hacker might try to come back and mark his/her spot again. Just to prove the admin isnt up to date on security.
