I'm GUESSING here caine and not a Fireworks user but perhaps my speculations will provoke some useful discussion. :)

Among the features MM lists for Fireworks is image compression. Compression seems to be available only for gif and jpg formats, so I'm concluding that Fireworks probably doesn't support other formats. Also, I checked Paint Shop Pro and Adobe Image Styler and neither supports pdc/Kodak format.

I'm thinking it's a proprietary format, and that you'll need to convert your images to gif or jpg before Fireworks will be willing to work with them.

Corel PhotoPaint 9 (included with Draw 9) supports PCD - Kodak Photo-CD Image and FPX - Kodak FlashPix Image formats. Don't know about saving in those formats because they are proprietary, but at least they can be opened for processing.

Draw 10 (and Photo-Paint 10) have been around for a while, and there was some availability of PhotoPaint 9 very cheap (around $50-60 USD)for a while. It's got some great filters, fractals, textures, special effects, etc. There might still be some out there, if there's a consistent need.

It looks like Irfanview [irfanview.com], a free graphics viewer, can open PCD files. It's possible they can be opened, and saved in another format to process them. If Irfanview can also save in that format, they could then be opened up again in the converted format after processing, and re-saved as PCD.

You could also try Thumbs Plus [cerious.com] to open them and, as Marcia suggests, save them to a usable format.
