What software do people use to create maps of sites already online in order to gauge the size of a site when preparing a very early quote.

I start with Xenu. It helps me map the site out and also points to broken links.

Thanks for the reply. I originally started with Xenu, however my boss was not impressed :(. It seems to be more of a link checker as you mentioned, he really wants a site map generator, we have looked at SiteXpert, but I was wondering if anyone had tried it or had any other automated sitemap software.

another idea Rusky is, get a ftp dump of the site, stick it in dreaweaver or something along them lines and do a site link check, which will check links, and it produces a site map automatically.

If you don't have access to ftp, then use something link webgrabber to get the complete site.

That is the process that I am doing at the moment, (without the FTP details :( ).

It is a convulted way of doing it, and I was just curious as to how others went about this task.

I use Teleport Pro for the actual grabbing part, which is effective.
But I too was also looking for an effective visual layout program. I find that if a site has been 'themed' and plenty of intra-navigational links included, Dreamweaver does not provide a very appealing visual layout.

Personally I prefer Xenu but someone suggested [netroglycerine.com...] a few months back. It seems to work pretty well and may be more to your liking.
