Thanks everyone for such a wonderfull list.

Need some information.
I am planning to start a new website using PHP & MYSQL. Eventually I plan to launch multiple websites & promote it.

Will it be good plan to get one 1GB machine & host it at my place using Cable netowrk which gives just ~768kbp upstream.

Or I should simply host my project/website on some hosting service provider.

The reason which motivates me to have server at home is, I can launch multiple project. But I am not sure if that will have some technical difficulties.

Please share some wisdom in terms of economic & technical pros & cons for my confusion.
Thanks again, Nil

First of all, welcome to WebmasterWorld.
There are a lot of threads here regarding serving fromhome.
Just use the search function and you will see them all.

If you don't want hassles, unexpected down-time, etc. then don't self-host. If occassional down-time (cable goes out, server crashes, etc) is okay and you'd like to learn and have control, then take the leap.

768kbp is plenty unless you're serving large files/pages or have a very busy site. Watch that your cable provider doesn't have anti-hosting clauses in your terms of service, as many do.
