Can a domain register be a cause of delay?

Can changing domain register speed up a website?

I bought all my domains through GoDaddy to use their domainsbyproxy service (private domain). My sites are hosted at pair.

When using firefox to initially view my sites I get Looking up... [site-name] in the status bar. This can last from 1 to 2 seconds. During this delay the screen is blank. This is true when typing in the IP address and the domain name. I know its not anything on my side because I have tested this with blank pages. A lot of sites instantly start transfering data and others also get this delay. After the first time I load the website its very fast.

I thought when you register a domain name that it was propagated through top level domain servers and your dns resolution should be the same for all sites, why do I recieve this delay on my site?

Would using pair to host my site and domains help eliminate this problem?

Is this just a problem with godaddy itself?

Is this an issue with my ISP and caching?

That should eliminate DNS problems. However, you shouldn't see "Looking up... [site-name]" if you enter an IP address directly, since this is firefox's message that it is awaiting a response from a DNS server.

If you do get delays using just the IP, try a traceroute to see if any of the steps your ISP takes are causing a delay.

It depends what the actual problem is! If it's a problem with your web host, then yes ;) It could be your ISP though, and hosting changes won't change that.
