moving website from US to UK IP

We have a website & a sub domain site. The main website is hosted in the US & the sub domain is hosted in the UK. Both sites are getting good rankings across many major search engines including google. But the main site is getting the majority of listings in google.com & the sub domain site is getting listings in google.co.uk. There is very little duplication of content between the sites & they have been built in completely different ways. Both sites target European traffic but mainly traffic from the UK.

We are considering moving our main website (presently hosted in the US) to the UK but are now considering the implications of this move.

Our concerns are that if we move our main site to the UK this may have a detrimental effect on its rankings in Google.com or may affect the rankings in google.co.uk for the sub domain.

Could there be a possibility that one site is chosen over the other with one site possibly being dropped by the search engines.

Basically, we are wandering if anyone has experienced any effects of moving hosting from the US to the UK or if anyone can see any problems caused by a move.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Welcome to WebmasterWorld betkat77!

Two key issues to deal with are interlinking between the 2 sites and duplicate content. Make sure to avoid interlinking since that is an easy way for the engines to identify a network. Also double check and triple check that you do not have duplicate content. Depending on the exact situation I've seen results range from a temporary boost in rankings to a temporary decrease of rankings. But in the long term everything works out.

The question is will your domain name change? Eg. www.domain.com -> www.domain.co.uk? If not, then you have nothing to worry about. Just move to another hosting company. There will be no G penalty or anything.
