Does anyone know if any overseas internet service providers block access to smtp mail services?

I have a client who wants to access mail in Spain, from his UK web host provider, but he has problems with the Spanish ISP and has to use webmail..

(he said he couldn't configure his email client to access the mail which may just be him being dumb, I dont know - but he doesnt want to use webmail)

It is a full smtp account at the UK host

I'm reading about ISP's blocking port 25 and I'm not really clear what this affects?

Anyone know if this is a regular problem and is it fixable?

BT sometimes block port 25 so people cannot send E-Mails out unless they use BT's SMTP server's e.g. smtp.bt.com

Dont know if this is a similar problem but it can be fixed sometimes by using the servers IP address as the SMTP server name instead of the DNS name.

Are you talking about retrieving mail, or sending mail? I guess it was about "accessing mail", which is going through the POP3 protocol on port 110. SMTP is for sending mail out through port 25.

Many providers only allow access to their mail servers from their own dialin/DSL network to prevent spamming. My provider in the Netherlands allows me to access the mailbox with POP3 from every location in the world, but SMTP is blocked by default. I can however use SMTP if I use password authentication. If you are talking about sending email, then look in the advanced settings of the email program and make sure it uses for SMTP access the same username password as for POP3 access. This works in my case.
