effect of URL file extensions on SEO

hey, all. does the file extension at the end of a URL affect SEO, especially when unusual?

in other words, is it *bad* to have the following URL:
http://www.example.com/pageone.page (or the like)

as opposed to the following?
http://www.example.com/pageone.html

File extensions won't ever be a problem as long as they are generally recognized. Are you using .page as an example? I would not use .page as a file extension.

I've seen sites ranking well with every extension imaginable. I don't think it's an issue to worry about.

i'm using .page as an example, but .mlb is an actual extension that is in the mix.

As long as the file extension is correctly parsed by your server and displayed to the visitor then there should be no adverse SEO consequences at all.
