Numbering on unique IP addresses...

Do engines look at consecutive numbering?

I'm going to be optimizing several related sites that will be hosted on the same server. IT specialist assures me that we'll have unique IP addresses.

Sites are to be cross-linked for boost that provides. I'm wondering whether IP numbers come in blocks with consecutive numbering, and whether that too is something I should be concerned about.

Yeah, that seems to be the standard practice. I actually am lucky because I have a box that has IP chunks from four different class Cs. Every other set up I've had alway dished the IPs in groups cut consecutively together. In your case I wouldn't worry too much about it. You seem to have a conservative approach to SEO, and fallow a sensible long term philosophy when it comes to this stuff.

The clustering of the domains really shouldn't hurt unless you do the type of stuff I do.

Littleman - Thanks. You're right... I am careful, and I take that as a compliment.

What I'm thinking is that if the engines are looking at cross linking patterns and they're checking for unique IPs, that looking for consecutive IPs would be a logical step for them.

I don't know how these IP numbers work... Is it possible to swap numbers with others to get non-consecutive numbers? The sites are set up on the same (company run) servers, and for good reason, so there's no chance of moving some of the domains to other servers.
