[My apologies if this is in the wrong forum.]

Hi,

All of a sudden I can't upload files via FTP any bigger than 8192 bytes. When I try to upload them, it jams when it's uploaded 8192 bytes of the file.

I use broadband through a router, and had this problem when I first started using it. I fixed FTP then by switching off passive mode, but now for some reason it's jamming at 8192 bytes again.

Also, if a file is smaller than 8192 bytes it jams at the end of the transfer.

Any help will be very appreciated, I really need to be able to use FTP!

Thanks,
Chris Poskitt

Yes, FTP is pretty essential.

Could be your server or just an FTP glitch. I've experienced both. Try contacting the server and asking "what gives?" You might switch FTPs, SamrtFTP and CuteFTP are two good options.

I managed to fix it by turning off the Windows Firewall... I'm a bit worried about vulnerability now though... I have a hardware firewall on the router, but am I still at risk?

I turn off the Windows firewall and run Kerio Firewall without problems in past - I also have a Firewall on the router...

Death of a Router:
I tried 3 different FTP programs / with and without firewalls - no luck getting FTP to work... but can still browse high speed...

I tried reducing MTU size to 1430 both on router and using Dr TCP software (free) - no joy

My problem "apparently" turned out to be some sort of problem with the router being incompatible with new ADSL network in some "unknown" way... according to my new ISP support... though I never had problems with it in the past!

Anyhow I looked for a firmware update for Netgear DG834G router and found one. I tried to run that update - which just killed the router totally so it is now completely dead...

So buying another router with brand suggested by my ISP... as they happen to resell them...

I would like to revive this thread because I am having the exact same problem for the past 3 days. I am on XP, Belkin F5D7230-4 router. All my FTP upload gets stucked and only VERY small files can be successfully transfered.

I already had the XP firewall turned off. I also tried using the router's factory default to connect, I still had the same problem.

Also this problem has nothing to do with my server because it works perfectly fine at my office.

Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Suggest:

1) Check your MTU packed size - try lowering to 1430
2) Contact ISP - check modem model compatibility
3) Borrow a dsl modem if you can and try that one...

i ended up replacing my modem with one the ISP recommended / uses for it's clients and all works great....

I also had some issues uploading files via ftp. I checked everything and then realized that my anti-virus software could be the problem, I disabled it before uploading and I had no more problems.

I am having the same problem and I cant fix it.

Can login to ftp server and upload small files and delete them. But it freezes up when I try upload a larger size file. Tried with different ftp clients and on different servers. Tried all firewall and antivirus setting all producing the same result.

I have concluded that it might some hardware. I am using a wireless belkin usb 64 mbps, that is connected to a linksys wireless router set up in another room with another computer.

Does anyone know how I can get uploading again soon. Im really not sure what to do.
