Does 2005 Norton Internet security still disable GZIP

Hi

I've just finally manage to enable dynamic GZIP compression on one of my websites. My web host will simply not provide GZIP for Apache, but oddly enough provides hints that lead me to PHP scripts for GZIP support here on WW. Thanks.

Now that my site is faster I'd like my Browser at home to be faster too. Norton Internet Security 2003 (when on) disables the GZIP compression flag in all browser requests to servers. If you simply disable NIS then web pages are GZIPed if the host supports it, which leads to text downloads that are at least 3X faster. Norton/Symantec support has claimed repeatedly this is an installation problem on my XP Pro machine, I don't believe them, I have implemented their suggestions several times to no avail, and its obvious why they would disable it to more easily achieve the NIS goal of security.

I would like to upgrade to the 2005 addition of NIS, but I'd really like to know if they still turn off GZIP in browser requests. I can sticky mail a link to sites that test this capability if anyone has NIS 2005 and would like to find out for themselves, and of course that would be very helpful to me!

If anyone has any info on this please post. Thanks
