Using frames for the home page only? Is this OK?

On Google my sites “cache” shows the <noframes> text.

Is there a problem with having just my sites home page use frames? If you clicked on one of the links in the left navigation frame you will be taken (loaded on top)to a none framed page with left navigation built into the page. You would then navigate through the site using non-framed pages with navigation on each page. The end user would not even be able to tell anything was changing. This would solve the problem of orphaned pages?

You may ask why I would want to do this? Well…..I currently rank very well for my keywords on Google, Yahoo, and MSN. I suspect it is in part due to my use of the <noframes> area. I have done quality SEO on each individual page as well. I am convinced that the spiders read and use...the <noframes> text. On Google my sites “cache” shows the <noframes> text.

I do not want to lose the <noframes> area. However frames do suck due to the fact that many of my pages come up without the left navigation. I don’t use Java Script to load orphaned pages with navigation. I’m afraid it would hurt my rankings. Would it?

I think overall my site would be better without the frames. I’m afraid to commit to dropping them all together because I’m currently ranking very well! Is my idea a good one? Thanks for any help!

Hi,

Why not build a homepage with your no-frames text on the page? That shouldn't hurt your rankings and you will feel better without a frameset.
