How do I set up a pay-per-print where a user can only print a one page document after he/she pays for it?

Thanks for any help.

You would need some type of a shopping cart system that can allow for electronic downloads. Are you looking for an ASP or PHP solution? You also might want to consider at least twice in case something happens to the internet connection while they are downloading it

If a page is to be purchased then the purchaser has seen it
if the purchaser has seen it why will he/she purchase it?

Now without splitting hairs :) there are good e-comm systems that allow you to sale for ex: software as a d-load

look at Zen-cart

That was also my reasoning but I just couldn't think of any other way other than seeing what others think and have done. I have never done this sorta thing before and really can't see the perfect solution.

I will be warning the client about the flaws as well.

As far as ASP or PHP I don't know. I've only used Perl for all my scripts.

All suggestions taken into consideration.

Thanks so far yall.

dave_h: depending on the sort of "page" you're selling, you might look into watermarking - f'rinstance, if there's a possibility that a viewer might copy the page to file for printing later, a big nasty cover-some-of-the-important-stuff ugly watermark which only shows when printed but not paid for might help. There are programs which accomplish same.

Otherwise, if it's just the information you're selling, I don't know how you can protect it: once the person has read it, there's no need for them to buy. You might try an excerpt of the page, they get the full thing upon payment. Or you might try showing only the first line of each paragraph - a sort of "obfuscation"....

Could you set one page as an example directly related to the page topic that you are trying to sale
and state that the real Mc Coy is available upon $***

Bingo!

I was thinking along that line myself.

It seems like such a difficult task but when I present this to the client of course they will have the final say so.

If not maybe they should think about up'ing the price and offering the file as a download only.

I will be presenting these options to the client soon.

Will report back.

Great help!

Anything else still welcome of couse.

Thanks

I've seen some sites, mostly research reports, that show an abstract or synopsis of the report. Then you have to pay to get the whole thing.

If you could write a compelling abstract that might do the trick.
