Hoping this is the right forum to post this.

Today one of my sites received a lot of visits from '8484 Boston Project v 1.0'. Should I be concerned? Can it do any damage to my site, and if so, what is the best way to deal with it? (I'm on an Apache server but I'm not well-versed in mod-rewrite)

From what I've read, it runs the gammut from e-mail harvestor to spam bot [google.com] and this thread: [webmasterworld.com...]

Thanks. I read that thread, and not being au-fait with these sort of bots I take it that it's basically looking for email addresses and it will not do any actual damage to my site (not even sure what kind of damage I'm talking about). Presumably it will not be blockable with robots.txt.

The ability to be blocked via .htaccess depends upon whether or not a UA string is present.

If there is anyone on these boards who knows apache and .htaccess it's Jim Morgan, the moderator of [webmasterworld.com...] the Apache Web Server forum. Might be the place to look or post. :)

Here are some threads which may help you.

[webmasterworld.com...]

There is a bit of reading to go along with those threads (which have threads contained within them ) and if you need any specific help you'll find it 'round chere somewheres.
