One of the low cost dedicated hosts has launched ftp backup service starting today. $1 per 10 GB. I think its pretty good deal. Anyone has a different opinion?

They posted on the forum that existing members can signup from the account center, but I did not find that option, so I have not tried it yet, but I think its a good start in low cost dedicated hosting.

That's a pretty good price, but FTP is slow and it will only save your data, not give you an image.

Many backup brograms allow you to create an image of the drive so you can quickly rebuilt it.

I am thinking of something similar. I plan to use a backup program / dump script to backup my MySQL data on the same server.. and then ftp it to the space provided by the host. This solution is only good if I am able to automate the two jobs.

Except my MySQL data, I don't need anything else backed up.

I do something similar for my mySQL data.

I run a twice daily Veritas to backup the data, then I have a batch file on the scheduler to FTP one of the files nightly to my server.
