Adding Video to Site

Experiencing a problem with Quicktime/AVI

OK, I am very new to adding video to sites. We have put a couple video files on a site using a compressed quicktime format, however the video works on some computers and not others. I am considering to attempt embedding a flv file versus running quicktime. I found a piece of software that is available called Riva FLV Encoder 1.01. Does anyone have any experience with this software?

I really need some advice, as my client is beating me up here...

Sounds like the quicktime player is not on the computers that don't play the video.

I would recommend 'Windows media' as the vast majority of computers have IE browser which will play windows media. After 'Windows media' I would recommend 'Real media', users have to download the free 'Real media' player, I think this is the 2nd most popular option.

QuickTime is (I think) the 3rd most popular option, which means many computers don't have the player. The user has to download the player. Do a google search for 'quicktime player' and provide a link to your visitors so they can download it.

Unless your video is fundamental to the reason people are viewing the site they will probably not bother to download the player - thats why I recommend 'windows media' - it plays by default on most PCs.
