I would like to be able to send my website users a SMS when they have, say, received a message in their website mailbox.

Can anyone recommend a good SMS gateway / provider for this purpose? I would like to keep costs as low as possible, and it should be easy to integrate into my website.

Thanks.

Just ask the users to provide an email address for their pager/phone.

Trouble is, that only works in certain countries, if the phone network provides it.

For example, in the UK, this is not possible.

It is simple to do - set up an account with gateway provider Clickatell and then one of the options is for you to establish an e-mail-to-sms api account. So, then all you need to is have a script automatically send an e-mail to trigger the SMS.
