dhtml menus: images vs text

When I designed my website about a year ago, I thought DHTML menus would be a good idea to navigate through the pages. The menus show images instead of text under the different menu options, which makes SE crawling even more difficult.

I want to improve the way my site is crawled so I decided to get rid of the images and make text fields under each menu option. Would that help somehow? Under what technology? CSS? js? Do you know a good layered css text menu?

Getting rid of the whole menu at this time is not an option. I need an interim solution.

My main question is: Will this help?
