Sitemap generator problem

Folders, directories and graphics being seen as mapped urls

I use a sitemap generator to produce an xml Goolge map file for my sites. One one site I have an unusual result, where directories, query strings and graphic files are being added, to show apparent additonal urls in the map. The site is more or less static html code, with no reason for query strings to be involved at all. There should be around 20 urls, and I am ending up with 100+.

Examples are :
http://www.example.com/folder1/folder2/ is represented as url
where folder2 holds graphic files but no htm files

http://www.example.com/folder1/folder2/?M=D is represented as a url
where "?M=D" is the actual suffix added by the program.
Other suffixes include "?S=D", "?S=D", "?D=A" and several others, each apparently representing an additional url.

http://www.example.com/folder1/folder2/picture.jpg representing a further series of urls in the map.

In all around 80 or so extra, fictitious urls.

I use the package for other sites and don't have the same problem with them

This site is hosted on an Apache server.

Any thoughts on what I need to address to fix this?
