Hi Guys,

Will very much appreciate your help with this one.

Our host recently changed the IP address for our server. Same domain name same everything....it is just the server IP that has changed. Domain name is approx 10 years old.

Since then (approx 3-4 days ago) users from a certain country are reporting being unable to access the site or/and it's various services.

All other countries are able to access the site with no problems (all services.... HTTP, FTP, Email etc.)

Question asked,

1)what to do....sit and wait for another 48-72 hours until the major ISPs in this certain country update their IP/Domain tables or take an proactive approach and redirect services to other domains. It's been almost 92 hours since the change took place yet we keep getting reports from users in this country about services being down at their end.

2) Is there a way of expediting the propagation of a new IP address for an old existing domain name world wide?

3) What should i tell the users experiencing the problem to try and do to bypass this (new IP/domain) issue?

Your help is much appreciated.

P.S.
Not a shared host.

I assume you have notified the host of the problem?
It's their fault. So they should fix it pronto.

So, they just upped and changed your IP? I'd be having serious talks about monetary-compensation-smelling-lawsuit for an action like that.

Hi DrDoc,

Thank you for your help.

The host has notified me of the change 10 days prior to the switch. I had no idea that the propagation of the new ip would take more then 24 hours to complete, world wide. So i thought no biggy. Boy i was wrong.

On any case, I know better now after contacting two major ISPs in the affected country (asking them to flush their router's ip tables...or at least check why our domain is inaccessible for their users). The good news....the problem has been rectified and all users are able to access the new server by now.

Thanks again
