I don’t know if this is in the right section or not. I’ve built a website for an artist and he would like to run a web cam on the website where people can log on to the web cam from the website and he would draw them via the web cam. I’ve searched all over and I was unable to find anything useful. I was hoping that someone could help or lead me in the right direction.

Thank you,

Eric

It sounds like it would be easier if you just had an upload utility. Users could take their own photo, via webcam or digital camera, and upload JPEG files to the artist.

If a live webcam is necessary then look for video conferencing utilities. There are a lot of systems out there for various needs.

the option suggested above will save you a lot of hassle I guess.

Bill,
Thank you for your suggestion. I will look into the video conferencing. Does anyone have any experience with this? Can I set this up on the website?
We are doing the image upload but he wants to standout from the rest of the websites and set up a webcam drawing day. People would sign up for a time slot and he would draw them via the webcam. I don’t think it’s that great of an idea but he does.

Look into Flash Video. Flash currently has the greatest penetration of any streaming video technology - and it can work in both directions. Sites such as Stickam - which allow multi-user conferencing, are using Flash Video.

You need Flash Video Server, which is not cheap. There is also a compatible alternative which has a lower licensing cost.
