Looks like O'Reilly is moving into the online education/training space. I found it very interesting that they allow you to pay MONTHLY for courses, that I think, is a fantastic idea.

While I do have somewhat of a formal education, there are a couple of courses that I would consider taking. 7 day free trial, one month free, and a low monthly rate, makes it very affordable. It will be interesting to see if they bulk up on their course selection in the next few months or not.

What is the quality of these online courses? I assume you get out of it what you put in, but are these a good value? I'd be interested to hear of your experiences.

I've always been somewhat skeptical of the whole online course and certification industry. I can't say why though. However I can see the value in offerings like this if the program and system is workable.

Check out www.lynda.com [lynda.com] - they've been doing this quite well for years, with a huge library. Perhaps O'Reilly will be a bit different. At Lynda.Com most of the courese are software related. It's a terrific service and I am curious to see if and how O'Reilly will distinguish themselves from that.

I have always found O'Reilly books(paper back) to be very
useful. Well written, with good content. Easy to follow and
understand.

If online is as good as the books, it should be winner!

ACM and the IEEE Computer Society both offer onlines courses. ACM courses are free for members. IEEE courses are either free or offered at a discount.
