Integrate Site, Mailing, Forum Registration - How you do it?

How to avoid multiple user databases?

Has any one of you designed a website with a single sign on registration system? I am currently working on a project which will require the user to register to access some content.

However, I would like the various services of the website (mailing list, forum, features etc) to access the same database rather than having separate distinct user databases. This would be a real nightmare to administer.

I would like to hear what your experiences have been. How do you go along planning your registration system? What problems have you been encountering? What system did you used etc...

Welcome to WebmasterWorld siliconbits.

CMS / Forum / BBS systems are great for this. They have user management systems built in. You can place your content within the system's control and administer users that way.
