Frames, dynamic links, and interlinking

The structure of the web site is complicated in terms of search engine friendliness.

The website has frames. Basically, there is only ome page, a frameset, that reloads with different parameters. The wesite URL looks like this www.example/basepage.aspx?p=parameter1/parameter2

Search engines other than Google have difficulties indexing the website.

Google seems to index it without any problems. But, there is a big "but". The website is interlinked with the URLs similar to the one above. And it looks like Google crawls it but does not count those links as interlinks. As a result we do not get any credit for our own links pointing to our own pages.

The website redesign with removing of frames is out of question at this time.

I see as a temporary solution creating a page for search engines only. The page would have a site map with links to physical pages.

Do I have other options to earn those credits for interlinking and make indexing easier for other search engines?

Are there any flaws in this solution?

I saw a few websites that have "for search engines only" links at the bottom of every page. I personally do not see any violation here. Am I right?

A site map sounds like a good solution to me. When I'm forced to rely on a site map, I've found one link to it from a page that is spidered is adequate. I usually submit the site map for spidering too, once, then forget about it. The site invariably gets crawled and indexed.

I've not seen "for search engines only" links but it makes me a little uneasy and I'm not certain why... Sorry! :)

Thanks for your reply. The website has a link to a site map at the bottom of every page. The site map has links with parameters. I will think about replacing this link with another one in a few places where people are less luckly to click on it and a search engine can easily find it: the site map page with regular links does not work correctly with frames.

Upon reflection, perhaps you should explore rewriting your dynamic URLs. A site map with static URLs that are rewritten "server side" to the actual URLs should help your site appeal to most SEs.

A search for "search engine friendly URL IIS" should get you started.
