Can anyone suggest any ideas on how to accomplish the following:

I want to make a website, that I can go to and have it connect to my webcam. From there I can broadcast my webcam to anyone visiting the site and have it record the stream to a file on the server.

I know you can do this easily with FMS but my hosting company does not support FMS. Any ideas are welcome.

I hope this question is clear enough, I would be happy to elaborate if need be.

I want to avoid purchasing software, since I know it can be done with java as a last resort. But are Java and flash really the only technologies on the web that can connect to a client webcam?

Why the requirement to be able to record the stream on the website? What do you intend to do with the recordings? Could they be done elsewhere?

What kind of volume do you expect? If it will not get heavy use, you may not need a server at all. Many IP-connected webcams have a web server and Java viewer software built-in, and so you can just reference the URL from within a web page.
