Its a Gateway 7320GZ Notebook.
Sequence of events. Working fine all weekend, this happened sunday night.

Come into room. Screen is frozen. (kids were ovbiously playing with it). Can not CTRL ALT Delete, i have to power down by holding the power button for 10 seconds.

Reboot. Nothing.

No video, no lights, with the exception of the power button, and the "plug" symbol indicating im on AC power. I hear just a "tick" of the system trying to access the hard drive....then silence.

The fan comes on which i believe is on separate power anyway, and if i put in a recovery disk, i tries to access the disk, i can hear it spin a few times, then more silence.

I tried resetting the hard drive and nothing. I booted without the hard drive, and the hard drive access light just remains lit. but still no video.

Does this sound like a fried motherboard?...i only say this, becuase i thought if it was the hard drive, i would at least get some video (hence the "no rgb signal input".

Anyone got a clue?
I had to take it into Best Buy becuase i still had a warranty, 2 days left!

i got the standard "2 weeks, we are backed up and we really arent that knowledgeable anyway" ....

Could yet get any bios info / boot up logo at all? If yes then the mobo would be fine.

In situations like that you would need to remove all external devices like usb modems, keyboards, cards etc. Then try booting.

If no good then remove the hard disk totally and try booting. If no bios then you have problem with ram / mobo / cpu. Further tests would have been needed to determine which.

As for the disk you could have tested in a) a similar spec laptop, b) remove and insert into an external usb caddy and try accessing data on any desktop or laptop.
