Getting a snapshot of server performance

How do you measure the metrics?

Getting ready this weekend for our big day Monday...we always get hammered for our Golden Globes coverage...last year Yahoo linked to us on their main coverage page.

I've always wondered how the post Digg, /.ed articles get their metrics.
You know, the "...article went live at 5pm. At the height of the frenzy our server was dishing up X00 requests a second, our mysql server was handling Y and we got on the phone with our ISP..."

How can I do an effective post-mortem of the day that will help prepare me and my tweaking for the next big hit, the Oscars?

Obviously I have stuff like Analog and Google Analytics for the traffic flow but what would you suggest for analyzing bandwidth, server load, request per second? Is there a suite of Linux tools or individual tools you suggest we run on various logs etc?
