I have an old website and im transferring to a new domain for better Domain name. Both of this websites already have a good amount of traffic. So im doing a 301 redirect to from the small one to the bigger domain.

WHat are the pros and cons of a 301 redirect when it comes to SEO? if ever i put a 301 redirect on my homepage what will happen to my inner pages?will they be all redirected to the homepage of the domain, or should i assign a 301 per page?is this possible?

You need to 301 any page that users might reach by direct type-in or through a link from another site or search engine.

Bottom line is you might as well 301 every page.

You normally do this through mod_rewrite. If you can't use mod_rewrite, your best bet is probbly to use an external redirect scheme, available through many third-party DNS providers or even your registrar. This is often called a "DNS redirect", though that's a misnomer. They actually direct traffic to their web server, which then serves the 301 redirect.
