Need a directory script/software

I am planning to build a directory. I dont want to nor have the time to re-invent the wheel :)

Where can I find a good solid SIMPLE script that can do this:

1. let users register, login and create their own listing and be able to change their listing.

2. Let the users be listed in their speciality and also when searched I want them to come up randomly listed. I do not want an alphabetical ordered listing as there would be no incentive for someone names Zee Zora to sign up as they are in the bottom of the pile. A random scrip would give evveryone the chance to be on the first page at the top, each time the searcher reloads the page.

I looked at kontiki, but its going way over my head and I need something simple to start me off.
