FTP using Windows XP - Is it SAFE?

We have been hired to do maintenace work on an a web site and we just received the FTP information from their web host.

The web host does not allow access to the server by FTP (using WS_FTP or CuteFTP). The only way we can access the web files is to set up a network connection to their server in Windows XP.

Before we even set up the network connection, should we be concerned by this server configuration? Are we opening our own computers to the web host by creating this network connection or is this fairly secure? Help!

you're fine. Just don't set any of your folders to share.

If you do have some, setup security on them as to who can share.

Thanks for your feedback. This is a very unusual way for us to access a web server so we wanted to make sure we weren't opening ourselves up for trouble.

I will post another message if we encounter errors and need some help.

For future reference, that is most likely a WebDAV connection - not FTP.
