I tried to view a file with the extension aut. which a software program created and it wouldn't open. What is this and how do I view it? Thanks

The programmer probably decided to use this extension to save his data when his program created the file, probably because it's in a unique format. It's unlikely that another program will display this data in a usable format.

Thanks Dave. You are sooo right, nothing will display this and there is no mention of an aut extension anywhere on the internet. I just wasted about 4 hours.

Looks like it is an extension related to the IPIX product. [ipix.com]

Open up NotePad and just drag the file into it. If it's a binary file it won't make sense. Otherwise you should be able to read it.
Thanks Boneheadicus, this does come in handy! Thanks Bartek (any relation to Ted Bartek?) I do think in this case it is a file extension the author made up. I made some webpages with some "automation" software and probably didn't specify the right folder for them to go into. Either that or the software author has a sick sense of humor.
