Cpanel, VDECK, Plesk, etc.

Can anyone give me recomendations on what to use for a webhost backend (where the customer would login and use their functionality)?

I have looked briefly at CPANEL, and it looks like a pretty good option.

I have been trying to find info about "VDECK", but have been unable to find any licensing info (or even a "homepage" for the creators).

My company is currently using both Windows and FreeBSD servers (probably Linux soon as well).

Any suggestions/opinions/resources etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Currently using Helm. There are some minor bugs that are being corrected now but for the most part it looks like it is going to handle our requirements for a Hosting Control Panel. User friendly and great support so far.

from a user's point of view, i really enjoy Ensim and all the options.

The host I use provides Cpanel.
I have zero grumbles about Cpanel.
That I can be happy with it and not foul it up
suggests it is pretty much idiot proof.

I'm currently hosted on a server that uses Ensim. I find it cumbersome to use and it has a lot fewer options than Cpanel. I would much rather use cpanel. I'm planning to switch from Ensim to Cpanel soon.

www.directadmin.com is very cool and very cheap in comparison with the rest. We have been using it on one of our servers for a while and have found it to be great for the price.

The company who developed vDeck designed it for their use and for their Resellers, they only put up www.vdeck.com to make it look like a legitimate control panel, although they do not wish to sell it they are going to, but they will be charging more then you can imagine (they wont give me exact digits)

I like vDeck, but I think cPanel is nice also, if you are just starting out in the hosting business, go with something inexpensive like Plesk (I am not sure of the price of it) then move to cPanel.
