Is it possible to have an auto-reply when using Hotmail as the email client? I don't think so but want to see if anyone knew of a way to make it work or fake it.

Thanks,

It can be done in various programming languages including Perl using the WWW::Hotmail module available from CPAN but probably the simplest way is to use Outlook Express where a Hotmail account can be set up to be viewed as a standard email account and rules applied to autoreply with whatever you want to send.

Send a blank email to hmoex@hotmail.com

and Microsoft email you back info though this is only for Outlook Express not for Outlook unless you are using Outlook 2002 where ththe following will work.

Select Tools ¦ E-mail Accounts from the menu in Outlook.
Make sure Add a new E-mail Account is selected.
Click Next.
Choose HTTP as the Server Type.
Enter your account details in the E-mail Accounts dialog box:
Type your full name under Your Name.
Type your Hotmail address under E-mail Address.
Now type your Hotmail address without "@hotmail.com" under User Name.
Type your Hotmail password under Password.
Select Hotmail in the HTTP Mail Service Provider box.
