Hello All
I simply want to connect two pc's on my desk. Both are using win98 and have nic cards. Most freeware/shareware refers to MP3. I'm not intersted in that, I just want to connect the two and increase storage, move files etc. Or is what I need already on board but unknown to me? Anything you can recommend would be appreciated.
Many thanks, duhboy.

Go to the store and buy a switched hub, then read the instructions.

Buy a $5 crossover cable. Set up TCP/IP with private addresses and no gateway. Make sure they're on the same subnet (Use 10.10.10.1 and 10.10.10.2, with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0)

Works like a charm. :)

Don't see where that comes in or how it's relevant.

But I agree the cheapest way is to connect them directly to each other.

Buy a hub if you plan adding other PCs to your network at some point.

Bakedjake is correct, it's fairly simple ...if you've done it before ;-)

You do need to set workgroup etc., and add TCP/IP for your NIC if you don't already have it.... but there are enough networking help sites out there. Try a quick search in Google. Good luck.
