Blocking auto downloading softwares like Gator

Is it possible to block auto downloading/prompting softwares such as Gator, memorymeter, et al using any serverside program. I have blocked them via the advertising network, but certain times, I miss out on blocking any new inventory and it's really irritating.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

To block Gator, and other nasty spyware, you can make an entry in your hosts file to redirect www.gator.com to 127.0.0.1, which will effectively prevent anything from that site to load on your computer.

Thanks for your help. You mean if I enter that in the host file on the server, it will not display anything from gator to my website surfers?
