set up server on cable

I do a little site development on apache with php with a few other folks. Is it possible to serve a site up ... the idea is for the team to share looks... we do not intend to open to the public.

This is the setup broadband->airport extreme(12.211.39.XXX)->server mac(10.0.1.2 dhcp) and a couple other macs and pcs.

I opened up websharing In the airport utility I added a port mapping 7000 external to 80 on 10.0.1.2.

Then we tried browsing to
[12.211.39.XXX:7000...]

no webpage

traceroute and ping show the machine just fine.

Anyone have any ideas?

Does it work internally looking directly at the 10.0.1.2:80?

Wow...
10.0.1.2:80 gives me a default page BUT
10.0.1.2/~pamelaparks:80 gives me an error...
got to think about these paths!
[127.0.0.1...] works great also...

Have you tried setting Apache to listen on port 7000 in httpd.conf, then mapping to port 7000 rather than to port 80 on 10.0.1.2?

PS. Best to remove that IP address quick if you don't want unwelcome visitors.

Many cable companies do not give PUBLIC IP addresses. Have you confirmed your IP address is public?

Ok and about those unwelcome visitors.... so they see a default page... what would be the problem?

Ok... so I can see pages locally using
127.0.0.1 or
127.0.0.1/pamelaparks or
10.0.1.2 or
10.0.1.2:80 or
10.0.1.2/~pamelaparks or
10.0.1.2:80/~pamelaparks

all these are on the LAN

My router... airport is set to recieve requests from the WAN on port 7000 and map them to 10.0.1.2:80 and I set my web sharing to punch a hole in the firewall at port 7000.

Other users have pinged and tracert my WAN IP sucessfully but cannot get the web page when they attempt to browse to

[ipaddress:7000...] or
[ipaddress:7000...]

A cat of /private/var/log/httpd/error_log is showing no errors so I guess this isolates the problem upstream of apache... to the firewall or the port mapping or maybe even my isp. I don't know enough Unix to know which logs I might look at to try to track this down... any ideas?

hi,

Your ISP is filtering port 80. You cannot access this port externally, because some ISP do not allow to run web server.

i know for a fact, that VIDEOTRON Cable, is doing so.
i had that same problem, use 8080.

You'll have to access the server via: [WAN_IP:8080...]
