How do I slow down my web server?

To test how a visitor on a dial-up would see a page?

Anyone know how I can slow down Xitami, just for test purposes, to see how a visitor who is on a slow connection would see a website?

If not Xitami, do you know how to do that on any other web server?

Thanks
Shawn

Rather than slow down your web server, why not simulate a modem instead?

This thread on Connection Speed Tools [webmasterworld.com] should give you some pointers.

Thanks, JP

Webspeed simulator (from xat.com) seems to do the job. Pity about the $100 price-tag which kicks in after the 30 day trial period.

I belive there is an Apache module called mod_throttle that would be up to this job.

Stupid question maybe but why not just dial-up with a modem?

Surely that would be the best way to see how a visitor on a dial-up would see a page.

I'd try and do it at peak times as well with a couple of large ISP dial-up accounts.

"...why not just dial-up..."

Its an option. However I generally test on a local machine first. Its much easier to copy and change files and look at error logs on a local machine.

Thanks, mack, for the heads-up re mod-throttle. Seems I should switch to Apache for my local test environment, unless there is something similar for Xitami.
