Does anyone know a way to "Shotgun" multiple DSL or cable modem connections into one to host a website.

The ultimate plan is to cluster several servers with load balancing to achieve maximum performace. But it doesn't seem like $1000+ per month for a high speed dedicated line, T1, T3, etc is affordable right now.

Is it possible to have multiple (perhaps 10 or so) unique DSL or cable lines coming into our office and combined to feed into the servers, to essentially get 10x DSL speed, but for only 10 x $40/month ($400 per month) - a LOT cheaper than normal leased lines?

Any risks with this, or anything to watch for?

It's a good plan, but there are risks as you surmised.

First, DSL is truly a residential service and shouldn't be used to host business applications. People do it, just like using a home phone for business.

But the phone company tariffs are set up that they have more time to fix a DSL problem than a leased line problem. A DSL line can be down for 4 days until they fix it, while a leased line has to be back up with in 6 hours.

Also, the ISP requirements for DSL might prohibit hosting commercial web sites.

And you don't necessarily need to buy a full T1. You should be able to find a fractional T or a buy into a Frame Cloud. These are typically offered in your standard bandwidths up to T.

Thanks for the replies, I will look into this more.
I found a full T1 including local loop for $400, seems good right now.
Thanks again.

Where did you find the T1? Can you sticky me the information? I'd be interested in contacting them.

Thanks.
