"Tagged" files

how to get rid of them on my NT 4.0 server

it seems there are some "tagged" files in a few of the folders on my server; when I try to delete the folders, an error message tells there is a sharing violation, but the folders are shared -

how do I delete these files and folders

also, the tagged files are in a folder for a website that comes up with another website of mine - same pages - but when I check properties on both sites, there is no sharing of files - this is very confusing - can anyone help me straighten this out?

Hey SherpaBob, we're pleased to have you join us, welcome! :)

It's not clear to me what you mean by "tagged files" but it sounds like some files don't permit some of the maniputations that are available on other files in the same folders. The obvious things to check (and you've probably already done this) are file attributes (system, read only, etc) and permissions. Simply compare them to the files that are behaving as they should.

If this doesn't help and nobody offers a better suggestion, a site search or a forum post here [ntfaq.com] may be helpful.

Again, welcome aboard!

After some additional thought... You say you can't delete some folders because some files in them give a sharing violation error. This type error can occur if a folder you are trying to delete contains a file that is in use by the system. Shut down any programs that may be using the files and you may be able to delete them.
