Hi, Using FTP i have downloaded the log files from one of my websites. Unfortunately i have never read log files before. Can anyone give me any advice on how to actually read the files. All i can see is a mass of IP's and URL's.

Please help

Cheers

You need a log analyser. Its much easer to get the software to read them for you.

Look in the Tracking and Logging forum and you will find references to a number of log file analysis programs that are free/cheap and will certain allow you to try them for free

Log analysers are good but sometimes you just want to browse the logs rather than a summary.

As an "I'm lazy, I have Excel and there are less than 64,000 entries" approach you could just use a spreadsheet to import the data from a text file and then view, sort, filter etc. to your heart's content within the spreadsheet - it makes it easy to browse individual logs.
