Have you ever seen the "In Browser Pop-up ads"?

I'm referring to the USAToday.com site...

The ads are in Flash of course but it seems as if they disappear after about 5 seconds, how is this done?

ya... although they may seem cool the first time around... Very intrusive IMHO! ;)

Didn't see it when I visited, but it sounds like a campaign being run on the EyeBlaster platform.

This seems to be another varient of the new fad in dhtml ads. dhtml is used to display the (mainly flash) ad and then disappear. Some will have a close button (akin to the skip intro button) but increasingly this is being left out.

I'll second the very intrusive call.

TV Commercials are more like banner ads - users know what they are, what they do and how to ignore them. You can go make coffee during an ad break, or flick to another channel.

With these new ads you have to wait until the flash animation finishes (assuming they don't have a close button) before getting a look at the content below... or surf to another page!
