Microsoft Issues Security Patches

Microsoft (Quote, Company Info) late Wednesday issued patches for three security holes affecting its Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP), Windows 2000 platform and versions of the Internet Information Server (IIS).

Nobody else said anything yesterday about this?

:) I think it's because a lot of us (myself especially) hardly consider MS insecure products 'news' anymore, because of the frequency it happens.

If it was a rare thing, sure it'd be 'news' but now, I almost think they make insecure products because they know it'll result in free PR...and the old saying says, "there's no such thing as bad PR"...

It summarizes my feelings well. Microsoft is in the middle of cleaning up it's security mess. it will get it's act together, but we have to give the company time as it as a huge problem to solve.

Interesting point of view in that article. The temptation to compare Microsoft to - umm say Ford Motor Company and their Explorer tire issue - is tempting but I will give M$ the benefit of the doubt. Their safety issues are not so blatant nor are they so easy to resolve. And what is worse is that as technology develops, their products are used in unforeseen ways. It is a moving target.

That being said, I think M$ "depth and breadth" is it's own worst enemy.
