I'm working/interning with a big magazine. Ideally, I'd like to have bloggers make links to certain articles, and have our online content show up more often in places like Daypop.

What's the deal with RSS?

Does this sound like a bogus idea or do you think it has merits?

Thanks folks for your opinions and ideas.

Most of it depends on what type of articles you have, what your target audiences are, and the general range you are looking for. There are companies such as moreover that will syndicate your content in a way that you're looking for, or there are also means of promoting your content to be "linkable". Do you want to charge for people to link to your content? Do you want to provide automated feeds? If you're just generally looking for people to link to your articles - what's in it for the site that links to the stuff? You need to have it a bit more clear in your own head and then explain it to us completely before we can truly advise.

If I were trying to jump-start something with the bloggers, I'd buy two ads, the first in Fark and the other in Daypop top40. Rates appear to be reasonable.

I'd also create a blog for the magazine itself, using one of the communal blog software apps like manila or radio. Then I'd start blogging, mixing my magazine's articles with commentary and links to other blogs that seem to cover your topics. If your articles strike a chord, that might get it started.

Making daypop and/or blogdex is no small feat now. Also, there seems to be a narcissistic trend developing on the blogs, where articles touting "the journalistic power of blogs" or "blogs as the ultimate news-gathering machine" are floated incessantly. Hmmmm.... in light of your question, perhaps your magazine should write a series of articles pandering to the bloggers' need of validation.
