Strange Request

I receive the request below on a resonably regular basis. A search on this site brings up one result but I do not understand it fully.

Today these two urls managed to bring up a coupld hundred 404's.

My question therefore is what exactly are they (I believe that the full url may have been cut slightly at the end) ?

1) http://www.mydomain.com/MSOffice/cltreq.asp?UL=1&ACT=4&BUILD=2614&STRMVER=4&CAPREQ=0

2) http://www.mydomain.com/_vti_bin/owssvr.dll?UL=1&ACT=4&BUILD=2614&STRMVER=4&CAPREQ=0

Yes I read that thread it is the one which came up in a search but I do not understand what it is talking about.

Does this mean that it is a visitor using XP that is just going around the site and the browser is trying to determine whether the server can do web discussions ?

If so is there anyway I can stop the 404's coming in ?

There is no way to stop those 404's
