PR from our WebmasterWorld profiles

We all know that the URL in our WebmasterWorld profile appears when we check our sites backward Links therefore it must be a PR4 or above. So even though it appears as grey in the Google toolbar - it surely carries some PR.

If it does have (invisible) PR then is this boosted by making lots of posts to the forums beacuse every post has a link to your User Profile? Should we all be trying like crazy to post messages, however inconsequential?

If this was true then all those crazy neurotics who insist on talking about the update will find their site's PR considerably enhanced. Oh, and those who are still exasperated about the PR0 penalties - if they ever get that penalty lifted - will go up to PR7 just on the PR transfer from their contributions to Webmasterworld.

Would that be the profile page with the NOINDEX tag set, which therefore no search engine should use the content of? Which in theory means that they never note your URL and never give you rank for it...

Methinks the admins have thought about that little trick already :)

I think if you check the code on your profile you may find this:-

So I'd suggest that, no we shouldn't all be posting like crazy for the sake of PR. :)

Yup. It's appearing on my site's backward links, too.

Mine merely has a NOARCHIVE tag, not a NOINDEX tag.

I believe if you have 100 or more posts - it gets turned off - This helps prevent anyone who may be thinking such things.

25 posts is 25 times "better" than one post, but you need 2500 posts to do the same thing with a 100 post minimum.

Neither one is going to help you out THAT much.

If everyones profile is not blocked know it will be soon dont worry. This thread only shows why it should be blocked. WebmasterWorld is not here to promote your site its here to help you develop your skills and expand your networking skills by meeting new people. This will inturn help you promote your site because your skills will be better. To try and take the PR from your profile just for you site is not the idea here.

The profile page goes through cgi. The PR benifit is very small. Even with a 1000 posts you may get a very small rub off, but really nothing to write home about.

I think Brett has thought this through and he runs a pretty clean ship. This is one of the few boards that are run in a professional manner.

I don't think it will be a problem, but some people that misunderstand PR may try.

In june, there were two profile pages with pr8's.

Sorry I had to change the address of profiles when we updated the site in june, but they were getting hammered by email bots. Since I changed that, and did the email obfuscation thing, they've just about gone away entirely.

Yes, it is 100 posts before the noindex falls off.

If they post because they want the inbound links they are just plain stupid, as Brett stated you need 100 posts to get your profile spidered, it takes quite some time to post 100 posts, the time you will spend doing that, you could have collected atleast 10 inbound links!

If anyone has any ambition, then IMO don't bother posting for the sake of PR.

Although WebmasterWorld is no doubt a high PR7....you will never get any higher than it, nor will you gain PR quickly. I think in the general scheme of things you would have to make about a million posts to notice a higher PR, and by then you could have written an encyclopedia on your site anyway without filling up WebmasterWorld with non-quality posts ;)

What is the problem with a profile link? It is only one page and people can choose to use it or not. It allows people to show some sort of credibility.

You should make it much higher than 100, I think its to easy to hit 100 without to much work. Just get into a couple google dance and update threads and before you know it you have 100 posts and are getting the benefit with out really contributing. I am not sure there is a number you can put on it though. I have over 200 posts and I do not feel I have completely contributed enough to deserve something in return.

Ohh yeah and either my toolbar is broke or there is no PR on the profile pages anyways. Not even Bretts!

No i think that its nice of them to spread PR to there members, the more they keep us happy the more we are likely to donate or link to WW! + without members where would they be.

If you really read through this forum, you see that PR is but one element and there are many others that should get equal amounts of each of our attention. And one link in from a (what are our profiles?) PR4 or 5 just ain't worth it.

As others have said, if you spent the time you're thinking of spending to make 100 posts on other things, you'll make more ground. And if you don't want to do that, try reading and posting in the threads that suggest some other equally important things such as anchor text!
