I've just heard the sad news that incredibill, [webmasterworld.com] Bill Atchison, has passed away.

Bill has had a number of health issues for quite a while, and, despite that, he was always chirpy and positive.
Over the years Bill and I became great friends, and we'd laugh and joke about so many wacky subjects. Despite the challenges he faced, he always kept on being positive.

Bill did a great deal of work for the WebmasterWorld community over the years, and, i'm certain that many of you that knew him will be very sad to hear of his passing.

RIP Bill Atchison

Deeply saddened to hear of Bill's passing. He was a dear friend to the community, an outstanding programmer, and one of the most unique personalities around here. He will be missed.

Some of my fondest memories of Bill were late nights at Pubcon. It's hard to believe he is gone.

I only knew Bill through WebmasterWorld and spoke with him from time to time over social media. He had his health issues, but more importantly, he had a great sense of humour. Very sad news to hear of his passing.

Gutted. He and I and pageoneresults have been OG cronies for what seems like decades. I never met him in person, but we had some interesting phone conversations. Half the time I wanted to slap him upside his head, but that's what great friends are like. I will miss him so much.

"My career has spanned 3 decades working as a software engineer with major companies full-time and contract, such as Lotus, Compaq, Amdahl, Rolm, Tallgrass Technologies as well as some small companies and founding a couple of startups. Additionally, was self-employed with my own company building large ecommerce sites and the software they ran on including automated SEO. Built lots of small online sites and shops as well. Currently I'm with the Internet Marketing Ninjas." - Bill Atchison (incredibill)

I feel fortunate to have met the man and always enjoyed the behind the scenes conversations. His sense of humor always impressed me even though he had a tough time with health issues. He did so much for WebmasterWorld in terms of the systems and back end. He will be missed...

Incredibill ---

It's against the law to talk on the phone while driving down the interstate in the state of Washington, and you were the only one I would break the law for in that regard ... Always looked forward to your calls .. Didn't care ... Whether it be Florida, California, Kansas, or places in between, I always had time to take your calls - Whenever and where ever.

You stood on the path, staff in hand, and proclaimed, "You Shall Not Pass" to every nefarious Bot on the planet ---

You never failed to call me out on my writes if something was wrong or didn't work according to your high standard of measure - Your input was greatly appreciated and always welcomed

Your straight forwardness, subtle charm and dry wit will be sorely missed ---

You were a great influence and an extremely valuable addition to all of our lives, and for that, I'm very grateful

Rest In Peace Bill .. and until next time ... God Speed my friend

I first met Bill at SMX San Jose in 2005. The following year at PubCon had the good fortune and pleasure of sitting with Bill and Tedster in a lounge and picking their brains until 3 am. Their knowledge and willingness to share that knowledge was unmatched. My condolences to his family. RIP Incredibill.

Sad news. As Lammert said an icon. And more importantly, a colorful character who told it like it was and could cut through the BS like few others.

good fortune and pleasure of sitting with Bill and Tedster

You could not have done better than that for company!

Yeah, seriously! Bill and Tedster!

He used to come hang out with us in San Francisco when I put the local SEO Drink-Ups together. He was the master of shocking you while simultaneously making you laugh, then afterward feeling confused as to whether you should feel guilty for having laughed along to his edgy but witty humor.

Truly will miss him. Glad for the honor and privilege to have known him and to have counted him as a friend.

Back when I was a young pup (so to speak) webmaster Bill passed on a few thoughts and philosophies which changed my perception of the web in general, and what a REAL webmaster actually does. For that I have been always grateful.

He will be missed.

- My IncrediBill Story -

Back before I started volunteering as a moderator, I had gradually become more and more active in the Search Engine Spider & User Agent ID Forum [webmasterworld.com] where IncrediBill was the moderator.

I can sometimes be extremely zealous, bordering on impatient, especially with what I consider important news needing immediate attention. I would often find a new bot threat and rush to WW to let others know.

At that time IncrediBill had the forum set to put ALL new posts On Hold, Pending Approval. Well this did not do well with me, especially over the weekend when he was often away. I would send numerous stickies his way, reminding him how important my news was and why he should release my post so others could read what I had to say.

This went on for a month or two until he came to the conclusion it was probably easier to just invite me to moderate the forum... I then got to read a couple of his moderator notes where he referred to me as a PITA :)

Once I was behind the wheel, I reset the forum to allow all new posts from established members, so the same fate wouldn't come back on me :)

RIP, i never met IncrediBill - but he was a massive inspiration to me here in his role as mod (as noted above by keyplyr) of the Spider and UA forum and the foundation of a lot of my work is based on ideas he wrote.so than you bill.

I met IB once but he left a lasting impression. We exchanged msgs and comments here on several occasions. I loved and appreciated his straightforward, cut-to-the-chase, approach - even if he challenged me on something. I knew his intent was good.

I will miss you Bill. Keep the beer cold for us.

IncrediBill was one of the many storied WW moderators/administrators who have passed on. He was my co-mod in Foo and I enjoyed reading everything he posted no matter the forum. Hadn't heard from him in awhile and assumed it was because of poor health. RIP IncrediBill.

He was a man who could call you a (fill in the blank) and then grab a beer with you and go shoot craps with you, smiling and laughing while you were on a roll . . and defaming your progenitors when the dice went cold.

I spoke with him a few times during the past year. His body was continuously at war with his life / living, for years. All the while his persona - his wry wit and everything else - never left him. Just as you might expect.

I will miss the SOB.
