Why is WebmasterWorld so slow?

...The first post of the day is slow, subsequent posts are OK.

Just wondering why the first post of the day on WebmasterWorld is incredibly slow to submit? Subsequent posts are OK. But the first post always takes 10s of seconds to submit. It never times out, it always works... eventually. (In fact, it takes so long, I leave it running in a tab and go off and "get on with it".)

Is this perhaps a security "feature" to prevent spam?

Do others experience this?

There's a whole stack of things going on behind the scenes where we're making changes to improve speed. We do have security features to prevent spam, and that may also be presenting itself in other ways.
