Information about Marcia

Hi all,

It is with a heavy heart that I let you all know that my mom, Marcia, who at one time was an Administrator here at WebmasterWorld, passed away yesterday, Monday, July 7, 2014, in her home, sometime between 1am PST and 10am PST.

My mom suffered from COPD and emphysema and had been struggling for the past several years. In the last years of her life, she was unable to make it to her computer. (And, would vehemently argue with me anytime I tried to buy her a laptop!)

Throughout the years, she spoke fondly of many folks here at WebmasterWorld. I know she dedicated a lot of time and energy to the forums and had a passion for Search Engine Optimization and reading Google patents.

Being that once upon a time, she had a substantial presence here, I thought it the right thing to do to make this post.

I am flying from Austin to Los Angeles this afternoon to handle her affairs.

Thank you all for the brightness, laughter, and conversation you brought into my mom's life.

Yes, thank you for informing us, Samantha, and I am very sorry to hear that news.

Marcia was a friend as well as an Administrator and Moderator here at WebmasterWorld.

We used to share seo tips and trends, as well as having a good laugh with some of my bad jokes. Well, she was kind enough to give me a lol even if it wasn't that funny.

Marcia spend a great deal of time and energy here helping many, many webmasters and SEOs, and we're all very grateful for her enthusiasm, energy and good nature.

Please accept my sincere condolences.

So sorry to read this. Your mom had a good heart . . and many challenges that she largely kept quiet about. Her spirit was one of my favorites. If there is more to life than this salty brine then better it be so that she may now rightfully soar. Amen.

Thanks, Samantha, for thinking of us at what must be a difficult time for you. Marcia was a friend on and off this forum and also on Search Engine Watch forums. She was kind and helpful to many members in both places, and I'm grateful for her brightness and keen insights which she so generously shared. I'm sorry I never met her in person.

Her own site, Webmaster Woman, was a labor of love, containing a treasure trove of research patents and papers and reference materials that suggested her visionary outlook about Web search. This introduction to her site from 2005, still available on the Internet Archive, says a lot about the care she put into it...

Webmaster Woman is dedicated to the lives, goals and dreams of women who work on the web and those who use the web either for facets of their lives, in their lives, or as part of their work. It's by a woman and for women - the primary reason for its being.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Thank you all very much for your kind words, condolences, thoughts, and memories. For many years, whenever we'd speak or visit, she'd tell me about the forums, or how she was trying to figure out why this, that, or the other thing was going in the SERPs.

Back before she got high speed internet, I'd call her house, only to be greeted with a busy signal; most of the time she was here.

Again, words cannot express how grateful I am that you all brought such joy to her life. She really did love WebmasterWorld.

Samantha - your mom was a force on these boards. She was quick to praise me or smack me in my early days in this industry and shared her hard earned knowledge with me and many others via this forum. Marcia was before my time so I looked her up. According to her profile, the last thread she ever participated in was called "What To Do With $98 Billion In Cash". Somehow this leaves me with a very happy picture of Marcia in Heaven.

I am very sorry to hear of her passing. I met her at the very first Boston Pubcon when I was one of about 4 or 5 women at the entire conference, she was quite happy to sit and chat, and I would talk with her periodically over the years.

At Pubcon last year, a few of us oldtimer mods/admins were reminiscing about her and her unique personality we so often saw shine through on the forums. RIP.

Sad to hear. We first met here, and in my early days, Marcia put me in my place more than once! As mods over at Danny's, Marcia W and I had a great online friendship.
Noisyzen, the way your mother coached people on forums back in the day - that was an art and an art. A level of patience long gone one line.
