I'm seeing what phranque is seeing too. Cosmetic change only. Functionality is still there.

The script call is still there, but I don't see the actual G+ code on the page anymore which I am certainly happy about.

<script type="text/javascript" src="https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js"></script>

Previous post was as I was on my way out ..without checking source code..

I enabled javascript temporarily to watch the effect of plusone.js being on the page.

I'm sitting here watching plus.l.google.com via Wireshark and it's polling my PC even after the page has loaded and sitting idle. Even a couple minutes after the original event. Nothing else is coming across the wire, PC is idle. Why would there be a need for that?

"If I were a search engine..."

and users googled funny cat pics, saw a cat, lolled and 10 seconds later +1'ed

compared to googling "anatomy of a search engine" and 30 minutes later +1'ing I think it's a valuable metric in understanding bounce rate for particular queries as well as spotting fake +1s.

Ah interesting.

I think this is valuable in helping us understand how they have access to bounce rate then. Google has soooooo many javascript properties across so many sites throughout the internet. I guess that sort of functionality can be included in others too then rather than just plus.js

FYI: This is work in progress.

I agree, it's also an interesting experiment.

Understood. I try my best not to criticize how any particular website chooses to run themselves even if I disagree with their processes. I know the measures I need to take to avoid the parasite and act accordingly. I just saw this as an opportunity to learn more about the purpose and functionality of google's javascript repositories. brotherhood of LAN's explanation was like a quantum leap for me.
