I have nevet met Ian, but he and his family have been in our thoughts and prayers since I learned about this. It is truly incredible how the community came together trying to help in every way possible. Now that we know he is well and on his way to be back home, it is time, imho, that we all pull back, and let the man and his family have the privacy and the time they may need away from public scrutiny as they try to recover from this event.
Hey GoogleGuy, Thanks for posting this on your blog.
The response from many webmasters, bloggers, and just internet junkies has been amazing to watch over the past couple days.
I think these few days shows that this isn't just a forum - it's a community.
Thanks to Brett for that.
Welcome home, Ian.
I don't know Ian, but I have been checking back religously for news. Glad all has worked out and he is "safe and sound".
Brett - I have never met you either, but it is just amazing how this forum has come together as a community...an international/global community. A simple "thanks" doesn't seem like enough, but sometimes is speaks a thousand words.
I am also in the investigative business and am very familiar with how situations like this don't always have such happy endings. I've very relieved that Ian is safe and will soon be with his family again. I've never personally met Ian and didn't even know about him until today - it is certainly clear that he has a lot of people who care for him so I feel like he must be a terrific individual.
As the old saying goes, actions speak louder than words, and it's refreshing to see such a large group of people ready and willing to help in any way possible. Very cool indeed! You all have my respect and admiration.

I can't believe I didn't think of the passport issue as the reverse happened to a friend of mine who flew to London, somehow lost her passport in the flight (she was able to board) and was put into a detaining cell and treated fairly unpleasantly until it was all straightened out.
So I hope he was treated a bit better over here (but probably not)...
PS: Brett, you have 5 asterisks on the left of the message above on the top right, and only 4 on the right.. I'm probably the only perfectionist that noticed :) - I'm extraordinarily sensitive to balance and thus feeling a little dizzy right now - he he he
